Michael is an Emmy-award winning editor (three times nominated) and BAFTA-nominated (Outstanding Debut,
Rebellion ) based in London with 20 years experience working on feature documentaries and documentary series’.
His work has been described as "Unforgettable... a masterclass in withholding judgement" (Evening Standard,
The Return), "Beautifully crafted and heart-wrenching" (Pulitzer Centre for Crisis Reporting,
No Fire Zone), and "Slick, entertaining… crisply told" (Time Out,
Building Jerusalem). He has been nominated for Best Editing at the Televisual Awards for No
Fire Zone, three times nominated for Best Use of Footage at the Focal International Awards (
Building Jerusalem, Windscale: A Nuclear Disaster and
The Return) and was shortlisted for the BAFTA Craft Awards for editing
The Return.
Michael has edited docu-series for Netflix, notably
Heart of Invictus (dir. Orlando von Einsiedel, prod. Joanna Natasegara) which received 4-star reviews from The Guardian, The Times and The Evening Standard, and for CNN,
First Ladies (October Films) which was narrative by Robin Wright and at the time of broadcast on CCN ranked #1 in total viewers in the USA. His feature films have screened internationally including cinematic releases for
Name Me Lawand (dir. Ed Lovelace),
Rebellion (prod. Kat Mansoor) and
An Impossible Project (dir. Jens Meurer) which was released in cinemas across Germany.
Writing credits include the Emmy-nominated
The Return (dir. Alba Sotorra) and his current feature project
The Consequences of Truth (dir. Denis Dobrovoda). Michael also consults on documentary features, working part-time as a tutor for
dok.Incubator in Prague.
Prior to his editing career, Michael learned his craft working in the cutting rooms of Michael Winterbottom
(24-Hour Party People), Andrea Arnold
(Red Road, Fish Tank) and Ridley Scott
(Kingdom of Heaven), assisting editors such as Dody Dorn ACE
(Memento, Insomnia), John Wilson ACE (Billy Elliot, The History Boys), Jon Gregory ACE (Four Weddings and a Funeral, Chasing Liberty) and David Charap
(My Summer of Love, Last Resort). Originally a graduate of FT2 (Freelance Film and Television Training), Michael also holds a BA (Hons) degree in Photography and Imaging from Manchester Metropolitan University. He is an active voting member of BAFTA.
